The Finer Things in Life

ImageImageIn June,I got an offer to housesit for Geoffrey Quinlan in Brewster,New York. Geoffrey needed some R&R with his family in Florida. He said that he knew that I loved the house and wanted me to stay there for a week in July. I told him I would think about it and get back to him.

Sometimes decisions are taken out of your hand and made for you. Shortly after his invitation,I got an offer from The Brewster Public Library to do two Baby Signs Storytimes the same week he wanted me to stay so I accepted the offer.

I needed to go up there to be shown everything that needed doing because Geoffrey has Cinnabar the big, adorable poodle,Whiskers, the sweet kitten, as well as the roosters and hens! Wow! Amazing!

It was hard to get our schedules to mesh so he had to pick me up one evening and quickly show everything between then and the next morning. Do you think I remembered everything?

I arrived and of course there were not the million notes and instructions that he promised. I was feeling great because my first storytime got rave reviews! He did leave the gym pass and a pass for Tonetta Lake. I was also left with instructions for Cinnabar,Whiskers and the chickens.

The first time I went to get the eggs all of the 20-25 roosters surrounded me and followed me to the hen house. I did not realize that they thought of me as a friend and thought I was going to feed them. I thought I was going to be attacked and quickly got the eggs and left. LOL,I had my phone with me in case I  could not open the door. As the week went on it got easier and easier and I knew I was getting delicious, organic eggs for my breakfast!

I watered the vegetables and got delicious tomoatoes and radishes. We even made spaghetti sauce. Cinnabar,Whiskers and I got used to  each other.

Poor Geoffrey! Until I started to relax,he received texts and calls from me for help. For instance,a rooster ran out of the gate one evening when I went to feed the chickens and retrieve the eggs. What do I know from roosters. It did come up back at dusk and it went back in. There was no power or water for 24 hours following a big storm. One hundred and twenty six homes were affected! (LOL) There was a flood in the basement and Cinnabar pooped in the house.

There is a happy ending to this story. I started to relaz and enjoy the house and area as well as realizing I was not alone. Also,I got company and the fun really began!

I still have tomatoes and radishes and am enjoying them thorougly!I forgot to say I have YUMMY eggs and am going to get pickles soon!
