The Finer Things in Life

Archive for April 2011

The weather forecast for today is 80% chance of rain with a chance of thunderstorms. I went out early this morning without an umbrella and had to walk back with my jacket over my head.

Now the sun has come out! Can you believe that? This has given me the inspiration to tell you what is on my mind and it could not come at a better time.

My mother was an amazing woman both as my mom and as a person. Sure we had our differences but she was always my champion,my supporter and my friend. She always encouraged me even when I could not see the light!

Nobody ever had a bad word to say about my mom. People remember her as full of grace, charm and elegance. She was smart, intuitive and talented Jeannette was a published writer, wonderful dancer, and a great cook.My mom was a great mother, wife, sister, daughter and friend.

There is not a day that goes by that I do not think of her. I have to believe that she is around me!

Next week is Mother’s Day. I know that you have heard it before but do not forget your mother on Mother’s Day and all year round. Call her and see her.She will appreciate it and so will you. Yes,we all get on each other’s nerves at times but that is life.

If you are a mom,you want your children to treat you with love and respect. Children live by example!

Live your life with grace and elegance!

Happy Mother’s Day.

I always knew I love to create but I guess it is in the genes. My mother was a wonderful writer and also was a graceful, beautiful dancer. I always admired her style and grace. My aunt Belle was a professional ballet dancer which was amazing  and wonderful to me! Her husband was a theater critic and together they made the most romantic couple. My aunt Bess taught me to knit and crochet and made the most amazing creations. I believe that if she had had the professional training she would have been one of the top fashion designers. Her sweaters that she made my sister and myself are a work of art. I still have them all. My family also has artists and iceskaters and more but I believe you can nurture and develop creativity and wind up with skills and joys that you never realized you possessed or were even interested in. I am  a case in point. I just realized some years back how much I loved making these artistic, customized gift baskets that put a smile on people’s faces. Also, a few years ago I went on the elegant yacht cruise with my boyfriend called The Bateaux New York run by Spirit Cruises. It is such an elegant dinner cruise with everyone all decked out and dancing to boot. My boyfriend asked me to dance and I did not know at the time that it was a foxtrot. He said to me,”Elaine,I lead and you follow!” That is when I realized that I needed to take dance lessons so I did. Never in my wildest dreams did I realize that it would become such a passion of mine. It gives you grace, poise and confidence. I was in a mini match the other evening and got amazing scores from 96% to 100%. Nobody was more surprised than I. I also never thought I could get up in front of people and dance whether in a show or a competition. One last thing that I did this year in regards to dancing was to go to Los Angeles and attend The Celebrity Dance Camp given by the professional dancers from Dancing with the Stars. It was amazing and uplifting to take classes with the likes of Tony Dovolani and Cheryl Burke. I even had a private lesson with Dmitry Chaplin. What a great dancer and a nice guy! Dancing is definitely one of The Finer Things in Life!

I was invited last night to an industry cocktail party to promote this restaurant called Hill Country and also to network with industry people. It was a fun, upbeat place filled with unusual food such as macaroni pie and little pizza slices Yummy!
There was music and karaoke and interesting people to meet and network with. I got to hear interesting stories and exchanged business cards.
I have to mention the delicious margaritas. The best came at the end when little cupcakes and liquidy, yummy custard came around.
I was happy and satified.
Oh well, diet starts today but at least my stomach was full,my palate was satified and I had a rockin’ good time on a rainy,Wednesday evening!
The restaurant gave out a goody bag when we left including a coupon for a complimentary dinner for two.
How can that be bad?
The most exciting thing for me was when I spotted Sylvia Weinstock, the famous, world renowned cake decorator talking to a group of people.
I wanted to tell her how much I loved her cakes but she swooped in and swooped out before I got a chance!!!
There’s always a next time!
